“Tell the people of Isra’el, ‘You are to observe my Shabbats; for this is a sign between me and you through all your generations; so that you will know that I am Adonai, who sets you apart for me.
Shemot (Exodus) 31:13 CJB
There are thirty-nine Melachot which Jewish law identifies as prohibitions for work on the Shabbat. In addition to these 39, there are also other activities that are forbidden on Shabbat as detailed in rabbinic law. These laws have their origination from Shemot (Exodus) 31:12-17.
