There are thirty-nine Melachot which Jewish law identifies as prohibitions for work on the Shabbat. In addition to these 39, there are also other activities that are forbidden on Shabbat as detailed in rabbinic law. These laws have their origination from Shemot (Exodus) 31:12-17.
